The Fly Reel
Size
The size of the reel should be
appropriate to the size of the fly
line used. For example, don’t choose
a small reel for a 10-weight line
though it is possible to use a large reel for a 3-weight line
by adding extra backing.
Manufacturers list the amount of
line and backing that a reel will
hold.
Cost
Most most cheaper fly reels are made
of moulded composite or cast
aluminium , which are perfectly
adequate for occasional fishing
however, they usually have plastic
or nylon moving parts and or drag
systems which tend to wear out very
quickly. If you
want to fish regularly, not have to
worry about your reel and fish for
larger fish—pike, salmon, or large
trout, for example—you’ll want to
invest in a machined bar-stock reel,
which is more robust and has a
better drag mechanism. Bar-stock
reels cost the most. All our
Bar-stock reels are covered by our
Lifetime Guarantee. Speak to your local dealer and we will ensure he receives one in your choice of line weight by next day special delivery.
